I had a whistle stop tour Starting in Hanoi, Ninh Bihn (Tam coc), Hoi an, Hue and Ho Chi Minh. My biggest regret was not having enough time to spend in Hanoi. Saigon is not without it's charm but Hanoi is a beautiful city, so much historical places to explore and the old quarter has one of the best night time atmospheres I have found on my travels.

At work or public schools I will say Ho Chi Minh City and occasionally Saigon. For me its just easier to say Saigon than Thanh Pho Ho Chi Minh City which is a mouthful.
